Prior to Project Dream International I could never travel or get anytime off to do anything with my family. Recently, I have been traveling so much more since I don't have a 9 to 5 job. After not having a weekend off in 2 1/2 years it is an amazing feeling to leave when I want...usually with toddler in tow... and not have to worry about getting time approved or not getting paid.
Regionals weekend in Chicago opened my eyes to the possibilities of a healthier family, a booming business, and a new awesome outlook on life and myself. Doesn't that sound like it would be an amazing weekend?! I am now registered for 2 more business trips within the next year and have already planned another trip to Chicago.
Growing a business sounded terrifying and impossible to me before this trip but being around Bonnie Donahue, Jaima Schutt, and other inspiring men and women I knew that it is 100% possible. It is about working hard and not giving up. If you believe in your products and know you'll be using them for the rest of your life then go for it. So many people I know hate their jobs, want to be with their kids, hate commuting, dread Monday mornings, stuck in a dead end job, etc...and you can make excuses all day long about not leaving but at the end of the day your happiness should be what matters most. I was depressed, stressed, frustrated, and wanting to quit everyday. I would have to get off the phone because I didn't want people to hear me cry. I couldn't stand it anymore.
I finally left my job and my husband was understandably concerned about our finances. I felt so much lighter, happier, and more free just from knowing I won't have to be called names everyday or be talked down to again. I thought I was the only one who could see the change. While I was on the phone with my mom, a week later, I finally got the courage to tell her that I left my job. She jumped for joy! She told me that she could tell I was happier and did not sound as stressed. It's amazing because I didn't even realize how unhappy I really was.
I still work from home but on my own terms and with partners that I like. I would never go away for a weekend with some of my former co-workers. I can't wait to grow my business with other like minded people. I want people who I inspire and who inspire me. People who want a healthier life, family, and world. I won't lie and say it's not hard work because it is. It's not some passing fad that will be gone in a year or 2 or 20. The company I work for has been in business for almost 60 years and creating products for 100 years! I have talked to so many people that say "Oh my grandma use to sell that." "Oh wow, they are still around?" I love hearing that. I met people this weekend who have been in the business for 40 years! I met people who make 6 figures a year! I met some amazing people on my trip. I even met the CEO of my company! WHAT?! Yes, Roger Barnett mingles with his own employees. He sits next people in the back, chatting them up while watching other speeches after giving a speech too almost 1,000 people. People like you and me get to literally rub shoulders with a billionaire! Who can honestly say that they met their CEO more than once and had a normal conversation.
Anyways, I think everyone should follow their dreams. You should believe in yourself. You can change other's lives, not just your own. My life has been changed for the good by just talking to my friend for a few minutes. I believe in my ability to make a difference in myself and my family. I am healthier now then I have ever been and don't ever want to go back. I am not doing a temporary thing that'll be done in a few hours, a few days, or weeks. The change I made will not just effect me but my kids, their kids, and their kids. I can pass my business to them after I am done. I have changed my life. Are you ready to do the same?
